[Production potential and genetic improvement of pig industry in F.R. Yugoslavia]

Different aspects of increasing the volume of production and quality of pigs in F.R. Yugoslavia have been discussed. Special attention is given to the possibility of increasing the production and export of processed meat from pigs in regard to maize production. The justification of change in a previous strategy and application of modern findings in genetics and improving, as well as in nutrition and management, and necessity of integration of slaughter-houses, farms, forage factories, crop production and trade, has been pointed at. New system of seed production in the Center for artificial insemination of sows, given much greater economic effects to all the participants in the production chain. The programme of genetic improvement has given certain results. It is necessary to reorganize testing system, forming and classification of pigs on the slaughter line by using a modern digital and computerized techniques.
