Experiments with the transplanting two year Serbian spruce transplants in the pure beech forest on the Kopaonik Mt and in the Norway spruce, European fir and beech forest on the Tara Mt [Serbia, Yugoslavia]

In the article are presented the results of researches concerning the transplanting the two year Serbian spruce transplants in the montane beech stand on the Kopaonik Mt as well in the mixed forest of Norway spruce, European fir and beech on the Tara Mt. (Serbia, Yugoslavia). The results show that the montane beech belt on these mountains offers more favourable conditions for the growth of the Serbian spruce in the initial phases of the ontogenetic development. In the 1989 were transplanted 100 transplants, and after five years (1993) survived 60 plants in the mixed forest of Norway spruce, European fir and beech on Tara Mt and 25 plants in the pure beech forest on the Kopaonik Mt. The Serbian spruce transplants on the Tara Mt have longer stems and more uniform distribution of branches of the first range. More successful survival on the Tara Mt points out at the more favourable conditions on the habitat in this area, where the Serbian spruce forms mixed stands.
