Experiments on using of green mussel, Mytilus sp. and seaweed, Gracilaria fishery for biological wastewater treatment from intensive culture of tiger shrimp ponds

Results of 1st experiment showed the significant (P0.05) difference between the control and the treatment of seaweed, green mussel, (seaweed with green mussel) in the average valued of ammonia-nitrogen and chlorophyll (a) at 12,48 hours and 24,48 hours, respectively. The other parameters such as, biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, nitrate and total suspended solids were non-significant (Po.05) difference with control. For the percent of change in ammonia-nitrogen of seaweed, green mussel and (seaweed with green mussel) decreased from 5.0-29.7 percent at 12 hours, but control set was sharply increased 41.75 percent. In 48 hours 4 treatments in ammonia-nitrogen decreased from 8-54.90 percent. The percent of change in chlorophyll (a) of the 4 treatments tended to decreased from 9.55-23.14 percent and 42.44-55.25 percent at 24,48 hours, respectively. The results of 2nd experiment showed the significant (P0.05) difference between the control and the 3 treatments in the average valued of biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand and chlorophyll (a) at 24, 48 hours. For the treatment of ammonia-nitrogen showed the significant (P0.05) difference with the treatment of control at 48 hours. The other parameters such as, total suspended solids and nitrate were non-significant (P0.05) difference with control set. The percent of change in biochemical oxygen demand; chemical oxygen demand and chlorophyll (a) of the treatment of seaweed, green mussel and seaweed with green mussel decreased from 39.47-76.81 percent, 55.77-77.70 percent and 78.81-87.76 percent at 24 hours, respectively. However, the percent of change in biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand and chlorophyll (a) of the treatment of seaweed, green mussel and seaweed with green mussel decreased form 73.91-100 percent, 20-59.22 percent and 79.18-99.36 percent at 48 hours, respectively. Moreover the percent of change in ammonia-nitrogen of seaweed set was sharply decreased 66.66 percent, but the treatment of green mussel and (seaweed with green mussel) was sharply increased from 650-683.33 percent, it increased because of the green mussel and its excretion, produced the excess ammonia-nitrogen concentration.
