The ever increasing tendency towards production economy has led to an application of growth promoters in cattle bred for slaughter. Trenbolon (TBOH) is an androgenic synthetic steroid, similar to testosterone, whose acetate (TBA) is used in cattle animal breeding. The TBA mechanism has not yet been fully clarified. It hydrolyses easily into trenbolon and its metabolites and is easily excreted in the form of glucuronide and sulphates, mostly via bile. The recent results obtained concerning the studies of trenbolon toxic effect are presented in this paper. It is concluded that many questions are still awaiting satisfactory answers. In addition, trenbolon residues in the tissues of the treated animals, as well as the analytic methods used in their determination are discussed.
