Effects and causes of physiological compatibility - incompatibility in tree grafting have been studied. The authors claim that these properties are controlled by a series of correlative genes in chromosomes and that the impact of natural selection on this sequence is indirect by the properties controlled by each gene. The phenomenon of physiological compatibility-incompatibility is significantly affected by geographical or ecological isolation between tree populations from which the rootstock and scions originate. The above hypothesis opens a new chapter in the research of physiological roots of compatibility-incompatibility in tree grafting.
