Biological indication of air pollution in Prokuplje [Serbia, Yugoslavia] by means of lignicolous lichens

On the territory of the city of Prokuplje (Serbia, Yugoslavia), having about 30,000 inhabitants, air pollution (particularly SO2 air pollution) measurements have been scarce up to now. On the basis of the investigation of lignicolous lichen flora three Lichen SO2 air polluted indication zones have been established through the Lichen mapping. The town center, together with its closest vinicity, is in the "Lichen desert" zone. The remaining mayor part of Prokuplje belongs to the Lichen "struggle" zone, while he farthest southern and northern part of the city is located in the "Normal" zone.
