The main pollutants of pen-waste affect the ground water are nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Owing the chemical reactions they undergo, the movement of phosphorus and potassium downward through the soil is insignificant. Thus, nitrogen compounds, and especially nitrates, are the main pen pollutants which affect the ground water. Also, the low survival rate of micro-organisms makes that bacterial pollution is localized in the area immediately confined to the pollution sources. Two numerical models - one for the vadose zone and the other for the aquifer system - are used to predict the potential nitrate pollution in the area of the planned water supply sources at Trnavce and Milosevac (Serbia, Yugoslavia). The input values of hydraulic and geometric parameters have been borrowed from another model simulating the hydrodynamic behavior of the aquifer and well system. As the transport parameters were taken from literature, conservative values were adopted (worst scenaria). The model results show that water supply source of Trnavce is much mode exposed to pollution than that of Milosevac, which will not be contaminated by the pollutants even after fifty years.
