Herbicides are chemical substances that are used to kill weeds in crop protection techniques. Using herbicides probably will give a big advantage for increasing crop production by reducing expenses of man power. However, incorrect application of herbicides will produce ill effects of environmental deteriorations. In this review, the characteristics of herbicides, operation mechanism and their effects on living organism and environment were evaluated
