The paper analyzes determinants of the successfulness of agricultural and food enterprises and determines the ways how to increase competitiveness of Slovak food products in European market structures. The main points developed are: diversification of production programs, innovation and improvement of technologies, cooperation, horizontal and vertical integration, joint-ventures, support system for sales, management and human resources.
