The staphylinid predator Paederus fuscipes is observed to be an active predator in the rice agroecosystems of Delhi. Its bionomics, predatory potential, field population levels and seasonal incidence were studied in the cropping seasons of 1997 and 1998 at IARI, New Delhi. It was observed that on an average 10.2 individuals were found per sq. m. amounting to 1 lac individuals per hectare. These had a feeding potential of 0.6 rice leaf folder larvae per individual per day and thus an effective predator. Peaks of field populations occurred during August and October coinciding with leaf folder incidence.
