Comparisonn of the values obtained for total solids in cow's and carabao's milk using three methods of determination

One hundred normal milk samples, fifty from cows and fifty from carabaos were analyzed for their % total solids using the three methods of determination, namely the Vacuum oven, the Carter-Simon and the Bobcock's formula methods. The accuracy of the values obtained from the three methods were tested through the analysis of variance of the Randomized Complete Block Design. The applicability of the Bobcock's formula method was also tested on carabao's milk. No significant difference were obtained among the total solid (TS) values from the three methods, both in cow and carabao's milk. Thus, the three methods could be used interchangeably for the determination of % TS in cow's and carabao's milk
