Characteristics of the structure and growth of artificial Turkey oak stands in the region of Backi Monostor [Serbia, Yugoslavia]

The elements of structure and growth of the artificially established Turkey oak stand were studied on permanent sample plots on the soil type chernozem. Based on growth elements at the age of 46 years (d(s)=22.0 cm, D20%=26.5 cm, h(s)=21.9 m, H20%=22.9 m, and V=300 cubic m/ha), the development of Turkey oak is intensive and the stand productivity is high. Due to low thinning, more than 60% of trees have irregularly developed and thin crowns, the trees have h:d=99. High values of current diameter, height and volume increments were recorded in the initial phases of development, followed by a subsequent permanent downward trend. Differences in values between mean stand and dominant trees until the age of 30 years can be ascribed primarily to the competition in the natural differentiation of trees. Further disturbances of diameter and height increment and equalised values of the mean stand and dominant trees in the last 10 years indicate an expressive process of tree devitalization.
