New techniques of localized phosphate fertilisation

It is widely known that the localized application of phosphate directly in the furrow provides a starter fertilizer for young beet plants, improving growth and productivity. There are currently new fertilizers on the market with microgranule and liquid formulations which allow a considerable reduction in the units of phosphorus distributed per hectare. Averaging the results obtained from plot trials conducted over a two year period at two sites by the Technical Service of the National Beet Growers Association (ANB), it appears that new products delivering 7-11 units of phosphorus per hectare enable a significant development of young plants and in some instances improved productivity, compared with traditional superphosphate based fertilizers.
