In the course of many years different figure and greatness fruits of tomato varieties and forms were collected at the Jogeva Plant Breeding Institute. The object was to find initial material of breeding. The main aims in breeding are as follows: varieties and hybrids with medium greatness fruits, with good flavour and suitable for preserve, high productivity, early-ripeness, resistance to leaf mold, gray and early blight, gray mold and cracking of fruits, slow regeneration of sideshoots, lower light and temperature requiring varieties. The methods of breeding were those, which are widely used. The main breeding method has been crossing and continual selection of hybrids. Besides usual crossing gradusl-, convergence- and back-crossing method were used. Results of analyses concluded that crossing between different cultivated and semi-cultivated forms may give interesting hybrids and new varieties in tomato breeding
