Progenies from the 22 different cross combinations using six strains/species of tilapia were tested to different salinity tolerance indices, MLS-96, MST and ST sub-50, at various salinity levels (0, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 ppt) to determine which cross will be the most saline tolerant. Progenies from the cross of IDRC x O.spilurus exhibited the highest MLS-96 of 28.27 ppt but was not significantly different with MLS-96 of progenies from O. mossambicus x O. spilurus (28.13). O. spilurus x O. mossambicus (27.79) and YY x O. spilurus (27.16) crosses. However, progenies from crosses of YY x GIFT (17.67) and IDRC c GIFT (18.40) exhibited the lowest MLS-96 compared to MLS-96 of other crosses. In both the MST and ST sub 50, O. spilurus x O. mossambicus exhibited the highest which were 192.83 min and 192.32 min, respectively followed by IDRC x O. spilurus (175.48 min and 173.75 min) and YY x O. mossambicus (165.70 min and 162.11 min) GIFT x O. aureus, GIFT x IDRC and YY x GIFT also exhibited the lowest MST and ST sub 50 of 68.90 min, and 66.60 min, 69.10 and 66.43 min, and 72.95 min and 70.35 min, respectively. Results of this study suggest that progenies of IDRC O. spilurus, O. mossambicus x O. spilurus and O. spilurus x O. mossambicus are potential candidates to be cultured in salt water
