Growth performance using growth hormone (GH) of the Mekong giant catfish (Pangasius gigas, Chevey) in pends

Giant catfish, the largest catfish in the world, is an endimic species in the Mekong river. However, the fish is able to grow up well in large water impoundment. The experiment of using Growth Hormone (GH) synthesized from pituitary gland were carried on by deviding in to 3 treatments. Treatment 1 control, treatment 2 muscular injection with 0.5 percent NaCl and treatment 3 muscular injection with GH 0.1 ml/kg. Treatment 3 was provided 3.4 g/day with a final weight of 4.029 kg while 0.5 percent NaCl muscular injection provided 2.5 g/day with a final weight of 3.619 kg and no injection provided 3.34 g/day with a final weight of 4,002 kg. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference (p0.05) between treatment 3 and treatment 2, while, there was no significant difference between treatment 3 and treatment 1. Gonad development were not found in fish weigh from 2.5 and 3.9 kg, which had showed gonadosomatic index of 0.4 and 0.04 percent from ovary and testis, respectively.
