The function of blood-horse organization to maintain family farms in the production district of blood-horse: A case study of Hidaka area in Hokkaido

Blood-horse breeding requires enormous operating funds, specialized production and marketing technique, making it diffrcult for a family farm to manage blood-horse breeding alone. A family farm usually relies on the support of many blood-horse organizations. The purpose of this paper is to examine the function and role of blood-horse organization in maintaining family blood-horse breeding farms. The study was conducted statistical analysis of the history of blood-horse breeding. The historical relationship between the development of blood-horse organiza-tions and the management of family farms was also analyzed. This study concluded that the most important function of the agricultural co-operatives is to maintain the family farm. The agricultural co-operatives also assist with financial counseling and marketing, greatly contributing to the management of blood-horse breeding farms.
