Improvement of cultivation method of jinenjyo (Japanese yam), Dioscorea japonica Thunb., at upland fields in coastal hills: Improving yields and other characters in tuber production by separating male and female plants, removing bulbils, and others
2001
Shibayama, H. (Saga Univ. (Japan)) | Nakamura, T. | Takao, A.
Field experiments were conducted to improve the cultivation method of Jnenjyo (Japanese yam) at upland fields in the coastal hill, in 1999 and 2000. Growth of the tuber was better at.25/20 deg C than at 30/25 deg C and the lengths and fresh weights of tubers were better in male plants than in female ones. The tuber production was increased by removing bulbils of shoots, but there were little effects to tubers by removing male and female flowers at shoots of the plant.
