Seawater quality along the eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand in 1994-1995

Seawater samples nearby coast line (distance from shore about 0.1 km), onghore (distance from shore about 3 km) and offshore (distance from shore about 10 km) along the eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand, were determined during October 1994 - September 1995. The results of water quality at coast line showed averages of water temperature, salinity, pH, DO, BOD, nitrate, nitrite, phosphate and suspended solids ranging 27.98-31.50 deg C, 13.43+32.51 ppt, 6.70-8.39, 5.01-6.86 mg/L, 1.41-2.65 mg/L, 1.73-11.46 micro g at-N/L, 0.11-3.52 micro g at-N/L, 0.41-4.27 micro g at-P/L and 16.68-75.86 mg/L, respectively. Water quality along onshore showed average of water temperature, salinity, pH, DO, BOD, nitrate, nitrite, phosphate and suspended solids ranging 29.14-29.75 deg C, 31.88-34.68 ppt, 8.23-8.41, 5.68-6.31 mg/L, 1.02-1.71 mg/L, 0.50-0.90 micro g at-N/L, 0.03-0.33 micro g at-N/L, 0.14-0.42 micro g at-P/L and 5.06-21.58 mg/L, respectively. Water quality along offshore showed average of water temperature, salinity, pH, DO, BOD, nitrate, nitrite, phosphate and suspended solids ranging 29.08-29.71 deg C, 32.71-34.02 ppt, 8.23-8.40, 5.69-6.11 mg/L, 1.09-1.57 mg/L, 0.39-1.15 micro g at-N/L, 0.03-0.19 micro g at-N/L, 0.14-0.32 micro g at-P/L and 10.64-18.07 mg/L, respectively. However, all results of water quality along the coast of the Gulf of Thailand were within the range of seawater quality criteria of Thailand by Office of National Environment Board. The study also included the results of differences of various parameters of water quality around the fishing ground, coastal aquaculture area, industrial zone, recreation zone and urban zone.
