Influence of water deficit on seed yield of 3 vegetable soybean cultivars

Moisture is a major factor limiting yield in most areas where soybeans are grown. The response of three vegetable soybean cultivate to drought stress imposed at different growth atages was studied at experimental field of Faculty of Agricultural Technology, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, during January to April, 1997. A split plot in randomized complete block design with 3 replications was used. Main plot composed of three vegetable soybean cultivars, Chiang Mai 1, GC 83010-1-B-21 and Nakhonsawan 1, respectively. Water deficits at different growth stages, i.e. establishment to pre-flower (W1), flowering (W2), pod filling (W3), seed filling (W4) and non water deficit (W5) was considered as sup-plot. It was found that total dry. matter and seed yield of Nakhonsawan 1 were the highest and followed by GC 83010-1-B-21 and Chiang Mai 1, respectively. Water deficits at different growth stages effected on growth and yield of vegetable soybean. Total dry matter and seed yield of water deficit at pod filling stage (W3) were the lowest while non water deficit treatment (W5) were the highest. Water deficits caused reduction in seed germination and water deficit at pod filling stage gave the poorest seed germination percentage. However, seed germination percentage of three vegetable soybean cultivars was not significantly different.
