The effects of commercial diets on performance, muscle proximate composition and waste loads of white sturgeon (Acipenser transmontanus)

[White sturgeons with 2 different sizes [large: 975 g (L) vs middle: 502 g (M)] were fed, for 141 d, 3 commercial diet, A and B, extruded (43% crude protein, both; 19 and 23% fat, respectively), and C, semi-moist (30.9% crude protein; 6.3% fat). Daily weight gain was 5.0 g for L and 2.0 g for M, independently from diets. Condition factor (K) and epatosomatic index (HIS) were higher in sturgeons fed A (K=0.90; HIS=2.04) than C (K=0.82; HIS=1.72) (P0.05). The proximate composition of muscle resulted affected by fish size, while fat content only was related to diet. Semi-moist diet affected wastes produced in tanks, particularly phosphates: 147.6 vs 27.2 mg/kg bm.]
