Natural compounds potentially influencing pig reproduction - review

This review article presents different natural compounds that can improve reproductive performance in both sows and boars. It has been shown that greater chances exist in the case of influencing the reproduction of boars than that of sows. The application of natural substances in pig breeding is new and in many cases has not been described yet. The potential effects of the following substances and plant organs are presented in this article: saponins from Tribulus terrestris, flavonoids from Epimedium koreanum, fruits of Cnisium monnieri, bremelanotide, root of Eurycoma longifolia, root of Lepidum meyenii, dry extract from Ginkgo biloba leaves, dry extract from Eleutherococcus senticosus, ursolic acid, dry extract from Oxycoccus macrocarpus fruits, pycnogenol, extract from Vitis vinifera leaves, tocopherols, resin from Boswellia carteri, and triterpenes from the roots of Cimicifuga racemosa.
