Production performance of captivate mithuns under free range system

An experiment was undertake to investigate the birth weight and growth performance of captive mithun, 16 experimental mithun calves irrespective of sex maintained under the free rang system of feeding. The mean birth weight of mithun calves was 19.94#0.90 kg and range from 15 to 25 kg. Growth rate of the animals was varied from 256 to 567 g average daily gain per animal during 0-3 months of age. The highest growth rate found to be 438.25# 29.14 g/h/d; lowest growth performance was observed during 9-12 months o their age which showed the value of 299.80 # 27.13 g/h/d. It may be inferred from this observation that birth weight and growth performance of mithun calves are more of less similar to the cattle and buffalo reared under such manageable practice.
