The effects of different apparatus, i. e. , Y-shape, square and rectangle boxs, on age-related impairement of memory in novel-object recognition task in Kunming mice were explored, respectively. The results indicated that there were no age-related changes in the 10-minute-delay trial in each of apparatus. During the 24 hours delay trial, the ability of novel-object recognition in the 21 -month mice decreased in the Y-shape box compared to the 6- month and 12-month mice, and in the square box compared to the 12-month mice, with being mainly attributable to females. The data measured in the Y-shape box were more stable than that in the others. These results suggested that there was age-related impairement of long-term memory of novel-object recognition in the female Kunming mice, and the Y-shape box was the suitable apparatus for detection of this impairement.
