Variation of major characters of 77 sweet sorghum germplasm which is collected from domestic and foreign conturies were investigated to select proper varieties in Korea. Plant height ranged from 153 to 382cm (average 308cm), and 4 varieties with high stems which have high yielding ability were selected. Averages of the number of leaves, fresh stem weight, stem diameter, ear length, and ear weight were 10, 241.6g, 13mm, 30cm, and 33g, respectively. Brix sugar content, which has a great effect on ethanol production, ranged from 4.5 to 19.0% (average 12%). Sugar content of selected two lines was more than 18 Brix°. Plant height showed highly significant positive correlation with the number of leaves, fresh stem weight, stem diameter, ear length, and ear weight. The number of leaves showed positive correlation with fresh stem weight, stem diameter, and ear weight. Fresh stem weight showed positive correlation with stem diameter and Brix sugar content.
