[Fecal scores of chickens inoculated with different dosages of Eimeria necatrix oocysts]. [English]
1995
Bhurtel Rama
A study was undertaken to determine the fecal scores of chickens inoculated with small or large dosages of Eimeria necatrix oocysts. The isolate used was obtained from Sterwin laboratories, Inc., Opelika, Albama, USA. This species is primarily a parasite of the small intestine and cecal pouches, but the middle portion of the small intestine is involved most. The first sign of infection was evident at the end of the fourth day post-inoculation, the feces were watery. On the fifth day signs were more prominent and birds passed bloody mucoid feces with excessive chalky urate and bile in the faces. With severe infections fresh smears of the bloody feces on 7 and 8 days post-inoculation contained many blood cells, excessive mucus, sluffed pieces of small intestine, a few schizonts, gametocytes and oocysts.
