The possibilities for foreign capital investments in the retail business of Lithuania after the restoration of its independence and the privatization of the trade and service sector are discussed. The conditions determining the retail trade and the opportunities for its internationalisation are pointed out and analysed. The favourable official retail policy of the Lithuanian government and the legal basis created for the internationalization of the retail network are emphasized. The favourable influence of the well equipped foreign companies established in Lithuania on the improvement of the trade technology and culture is estimated.
