Blood glutathione peroxidase activity was investigated in chicken embryos in the 11th, 15th and 19th day of incubation and in chickens immediately after hatching. The investigations included Rhode Island Red and Prelux-Bro breeds. On the 11th day of embryonal development the glutathione peroxidase activity with the Rhode Island Red breed was 22.3 and with Prelux-Bro, 49.6 mkat/l. With chickens after hatching, the investigated activity was 267.7 mkat/l with the Rhode Island Red breed and 377.6 mkat/l with the Prelux-Bro breed. Correlation between the activity of glutathione peroxidase and body mass was statistically significant. Significant differences exist in the activity of the investigated enzyme among breeds, as well.
