The regulatory impediments to the private industrial sector development in Asia : a comparative study
Khatkhate, Deena R.
This study focuses on the domestic regulatory apparatus in five Asian countries; India, Indonesia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. It does this in order to critically examine how it has affected the growth of private industrial sector development. The selected countries provide a mix of countries that are in various stages of modifying and/or dismantling their domestic regulatory policies. These are discussed under five topics: industrial licensing, price control policies, labor market policies; policies directed towards direct foreign investments, and the promotional policies in regard to private sector development. Other policies, such as trade and financial sector policies, are germane to the private sector development, they have been briefly discussed in appropriate contexts.
