Workshop on goals and indicators for monitoring and evaluation for water supply and sanitation
Langseth, Petter | Kato, Damian | Kisubi, Mohammad | Pope, Jeremy
The Workshop on Goals and Indicators for Monitoring and Evaluation for Water Supply and Sanitation was held on June 25-29, 1990 at Geneva, Switzerland. The Geneva Workshop brought together specialists form external support agencies and developing country-based nongovernmental organizations, to discuss goals and indicators for participatory evaluation in water supply and sanitation, and to provide a basis for draft guidelines for monitoring and evaluation. It resulted in consensus on three issues: 1) Endorsement of the overall objectives for the sector; 2) collective acceptance of the need for core indicators, valid at community, national, and global levels; and 3) endorsement of the validity of participatory data collection and evaluation techniques, including the key concept of community-generated data becoming part of national planning processes. This report seeks to capture the conclusion of the debates at Geneva and try to draw on the contents of the papers prepared for the Workshop to supplement the conclusions of the Working Groups.
