The advisory system provides a decision framework for selecting an appropriate model from the numerous available transport models conditioned on available site data. In addition, the use of optimization methods is explored for determining optimal remediation strategies at a specific site. The optimization routine evaluates tradeoffs between the long-term cost of remediation and the probability the remediation strategy will fail. The final product of this project is a computer-based Air Force Installation Restoration Workstation Advisory System for contaminant modeling and decision-making. This software can be used as an aid to technical project managers within the U.S. Air Force Installation Restoration Program in developing and evaluating possible remediation alternatives and managing ongoing remediation activities.
