Production of sulfated polysaccharide from Arthrobacter fusants as antiviral and antioxidant

Six of higher sulfated polysaccharide producers Arthrobacter strains were used in this ýwork, One identified strain, Arthrobacter viscous ATC 19584 and five local strains; ýArthrobacter sp 1, Arthrobacter sp2, Arthrobacter viscous G119, Arthrobacter spl SA30 ýand Arthrobacter spl G140. These strains were used as parens to test and improve their ýpotentialities as sulfated polysaccharide producers. Five experiments of protoplast fusion ýwere done between these six parents. Twenty two genetically sTable fusants were ýobtained after one hour incubation period. They were higher sulfate polysaccharide ýproduction than their parents. The fusants number of each trial was; 8, 3, 4, 4 and 3 ýfusants for the first, second, third, fourth and fifth protoplast trials; respectively. The first ýArthrobacter viscous ATCC 19584 (PI)x Arthrobacter spl SA30 (P5) trial was the best ýwhere al1 obtained fusants show~d hIgher sulfate polysacchar!de production ranged from ýý2 to 3 times than the average of their two parents.
