The presence in the Dagestan land fund of 2.3 million hectares of natural grassland, located in the arid steppe zone, semi-desert, mountains and highlands, where are extreme natural conditions and sharply continental climate, identified a major role of sheep breeding with its transhumance system. Sheep breeding specialization on meat production in a combination with crossbred wool will allow to raise economic efficiency and to provide stable development of the branch. Level of production and consumption of meat and meat products depends not only on agricultural producers, but also on meat-packing industry and trade. Only on the basis of the coordinated market may be solved the problem of Republic provision with meat and meat products.
