Determining the status of education, employment and job satisfaction of dietitians in turkey

Human population are constantly increasing and finding an average food resources are decreasing with each passing day. Because of that dietitians are very popular in Turkey and in the World. Depending on interest, the department and students of nutrition and dietetics in universities is increasing each year. But because of insufficient employment, lots of dietitians especially newly graduates are unemployed. Therefore this situation has created a competition in dietitians. For this reason, some dietitians have wanted to improve the level of education and other ones have tried to use some unethical methods in losing weight. This descriptive study was conducted with 568 Turkish dietitians in Turkey due to finding dietitians working condition, educational level and job satisfaction. The data was collected by personal information form (12 question), which is created by researcher, and Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (20 entry) in between 1 - 31 May 2017. The job satisfaction scale evaluates that lower and general dimensions of the job satisfaction levels are the low between 2,00 and blow values, , moderate between 2,00 and 4,00 and high between 4,0 and above values. The research results show that the variables age and education of dieticians are effecting to the status of the employing (p<0,05). Also age, education status, and place of the study variables are effecting job satisfaction scale (p<0,05). As a result of research, general (3,53±0,745), intrinsic (3,73±0,725) and extrinsic (3,24±0,906) job satisfaction score were observed to moderate level. The lowest satisfaction subscore of scale was wage (2,77±1,223). Also unemployment rate of dietitians (%32,9) were almost 3 times higher than unemployment rate of higher education graduates (%12) in Turkey.
