Novel surface-functionalised nanoparticles as polymer supports for synthesis of unsymmetrical porphyrins
2008

A polymerisable surfactant, containing a reactive polymerisable tail and polar carboxylic acid head group, was synthesized and employed in the development of surface functionalised nanoparticles via microemulsion polymerisation. The average diameter of the polymer was 317 nm with a size range of 56-600 nm. The feasibility of using this polymer as a solid support in organic chemistry has been successfully demonstrated in the synthesis of unsymmetrical porphyrins, where higher yields were achieved compared to the same reactions in solution or on conventional solid-phase.
