Vari̇ous producti̇on trai̇ts of hai̇r goats rai̇sed under extensi̇ve condi̇ti̇ons

The objective of this study was to determine various production traits of Hair goats rasied under extensive conditions in Van province, the Eastern Anatolia Region. This study carried out in 2010-2011 in Elmacı hamlet, Işınlı village, Çatak district, Van province . Seventy-eight hair goats and 4 he-goats, also 44 male kids and 35 female kids born in 2011 (march-april) were utilized in the study. The rates of the pregnancy, birth, single birth and twining in the hair goats were 94.87 %, 85.89 %, 82.09 % and 17.91%, respectively. Kid yield per birth was 1.18; yield of the kids was 101.28 %; yield of the kids at weaning was 91.02 %. Lactation duration and lactation milk yield in Hair goats were 163.26 days and 109.70 kg, respectively. The weights of Hair goat kids at birth, 30th, 60 th, 90 th (weaning), 120 th, 150 th and 180 th days were 3.01, 6.49, 9.81, 12.32, 14.65, 16.91 ve 18.77 kg, respectively. The effect of the age on all of fertility parametres was not significant. Effects of age, birth type, sex of kids on lactation duration were not significant; the effect of only age on lactation milk yield was significant (P<0.01). Also, effects of dam?s age, birth type and sex on the growing performance of the hair goats kids were investigated. The effect of dam?s age on live weights of kids between birth to weaning period was significant (P<0.05 and P<0.01) at different levels. The effect of birth type on live weights of kids between weaning to 180th day was significant was significant (P<0.05 and P<0.01) at different levels. Survival rates of Hair goat kids at weaning and 180th day were 89.87 % and 84.81 % , respectively. The effect of dam?s age on survival rates at weaning and 180th day of Hair goat kids was significant (P<0.001); furthermore, the effect of sex on survival rate of Hair goat kids at180th day was significant (P<0.001); but effects of birth type and sex on survival rates of kids were not significant (P>0.05). The findings of this study showed that fertility and milk yield traits of Hair goats with survival rates and growth performances of goat kids raised under extensive conditions were lower than findings of some literatures carried out on Hair goats. Therefore, it was concluded that it should be useful to improve the maintenance-feeding conditions in order to improving various production performances of Hair goat raised under extensive conditions, also it would be beneficial to apply the efficent selection programs on the herd.
