The effect on growth and feed conversion ratio of using fermented soybean meal instead of fish meal at juvenile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus, L. 1758) diet

In this study, the effects on growth, feed efficiency, protein digestibility, hepatoso-matic indices, viscerosomatic indices, body protein and survival rate of addition soy-bean meal fermented with whey by replacement 10%, 20% , 30%, 40% and 50% of fish meal protein in the diet of average weight 0,74?0,02 g tilapia fry (Oreochromis niloticus) were investigated. The diets were isonitrogenous (36%) and isocaloric (3640 kcal kg-1), and were fed for 90 days to the fry. Each diet group was fed to triplicate tanks of the fry, and each tank was stocked with 25 fish. The end of the experement, the highest growth, feed conversion ratio and the digestibility were found in the group of fermented with whey of 30% of the fish meal protein. However, the use of soybean meal fermented with whey from 10 to 50% in the ab-sence of fish meal protein in the diet exhibited similar growth, feed efficiency and protein digestibility as compared with the control diet. The end of trial, the use of soybean meal fermented with whey from 10 to 50% in the absence of fish meal pro-tein in the diet exhibited similar growth, feed efficiency and protein digestibility as compared with the control diet. No significant differences in body protein, hepatosomatic indices and survival rate were observed with the use of fermented soybean meal in the tilapia diet (P>0,05). As overall, the results indicated that soy-bean meal fermented with whey could be replaced up to 50% of the fish meal protein tilapia diets.
