Halperin, J. (The Volcani Center, Bet Dagan (Israel). Dept. of Entomology)
Methods are described for mass breeding of Ooencyrtus pityocampae (Merc.) (Encrytidae), the most common egg parasitoid of Thaumetopoea wilkinsoni Tams in Israel. The parasitoid was reared in egg clusters of its host, and in eggs of Bombyx mori L. It can be grown either for immediate release of imagines in the field, or for storage and future use of diapausing larvae. By the described methods, the parasitoid can be increased by a factor of 3 - 12. Eggs of T. wilkinsoni can also be used to rear Eutetrastichus servadeii Dom. (Eulophidae), another egg parasitoid of T. wilkinsoni, for field release in pine stands where the parasitoid is absent
