Probiotics in swine feeding. The use of Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus licheniformis (experimental contribution)

Industry, thanks to modern plants and to processing technics more and more refined, is able today to produce, at low costs, concentrated probiotics and to prepare mixtures that, suitably supported, can call the attention of researchers and technicians about their use in animal feeding. One of those products called Biomate 2B plus, contains Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus licheniformis in mixture, with ratio 50:50. Added to sow and to piglet feed at the dose, respectively, of 0.03% and 0.02%, Biomate 2B Plus has no effects on sow reproductive efficiency as it is able to improve the piglets growth speed (14%) and their feed utilization (7%). These improvements are better than those obtained with virginiamycin (50 ppm), with differences, respectively, of 11% and 6%. The probiotic is furthermore able to favourably orient the development and the activity of piglets intestinal micro-organisms (reduction of the number of coliform and rise of the number of lactobacilli), with positive effects on the health status. With a treatment limited only to piglet feed, Biomate 2B Plus efficacy is shown at a higher dose (0.04% of feed instead of 0.02%)
