The in vitro antimicrobial drug susceptibilities of 23 T. hyodysenteriae isolates recovered from 23 outbreaks of swine dysentery (SD) throughout Australia between 1986 and 1990 were determined for tiamulin, hydrogen fumarate, dimetridazole, lincomycin hydrochloride, oxytetracycline, tylosin and spectinomycin. Tiamulin, hydrogen fumarate and dimetridazole were the most effective in inhibiting the reference strain B204 and all 23 isolates. The results were similar to the resistance patterns of isolates from other countries, but no resistance comparable to that found overseas was detected.
