An analysis of two methods of fitting the von Bertalanffy curve to capture-recapture data [growth model; reliability]

The bias and inconsistency of the Fabens method and a modified method proposed by Kirkwood and Somers can be large in fitting the von Bertalanffy growth curve, as demonstrated by simulations and application to data on the western rock lobster. Neither method is reliable and a new method is required.
