Control of take-all of wheat by fungicide PP450 (ICI): 1986

PP450-impregnated superphosphate was tested at 10 sites in the south-west and 2 sites north of Perth, Western Australia, during 1986. Aroona and Kulin wheats were sown at 10 and 2 sites respectively. With a few minor exceptions, the chemical did not significantly affect emergence, take-all incidence percentage, take-all severity percentage, tiller numbers, head numbers, shoot weight, total top weight or yield. In view of the positive results being reported from the eastern States, it may be necessary to conduct further experiments to determine if there is some soil or climatic factor which is reducing the effectiveness of PP450 in Western Australia.
