The effect of seedbed and sowing time on the establishment of Siratro and Gatton panic into native pasture [Macroptilium atropurpureum; Panicum maximum; south-east Queensland]
1991
Lowe, K.F. | Bowdler, T.M. (Queensland Dept. of Primary Industries, Ipswich (Australia). Pasture Management Branch)
In field trials, environmental conditions, irrespective of seedbed preparation or sowing date, determined the success of sowings of Siratro into a native pasture sward. Reliable establishment was only achieved by severe pasture renovation with reduction in basic cover by at least 75 percent. The grass (Gatton panic) component never established well. Increasing the severity of pasture renovation reduced subsequent pasture yields and increased the yield of broadleaved weeds.
