Agrothesaurus of flora and fauna: methods of compilation of a www-accesible latin-slovenian-english glossary of plants and animals

Article presents methods of collecting terms, and compiling and updating of the first Slovenian www-accessible Latin-Slovenian-English glossary (thesaurus or dictionary) of agricultural plants and domestic animals. As a terms source both Slovenian and other resources were used such as books, articles, Union Bibliographic/Catalogue Database COBIB as a utility of the Slovenian COBISS information system, bibliographic databases CAB, AGRIS, TREECD, WWW-related directories and relational databases. Glossary is conceived as a sequence of several hierarchical partitions/lists with regard to plants and animals. Plant (sub) species are included twice in the lists. First plant list is arranged alphabetically according to a botanical family and genus of each (sub) species. The second list is arranged according to a crop group or plant type. With animals there are two lists with the first including Slovenian wild animals (vertebrates only) divided up into a zoological class, and the second including all domestic animals. The lists are being updated on a regular basis. Further suggestions can be personally communicated to the designers of the glossary.
