Philip Vincent Cardon (1889-1965) worked as an agronomist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in the Bureau of Plant Industry from 1909 to 1919. He later became director of the USDA Graduate School (1950-1952). Beginning in 1953, he served as director general of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
