Megaproject social responsibility and innovation are two important determinants to promote sustainable delivery of megaproject. Nevertheless, there have been few, if any, studies discussing the complex relationships between megaproject social responsibility, innovation, and project performance. Motivated by this, this study aims to analyze relationships between megaproject social responsibility and project performance, considering the mediating and moderating effect of innovation in a single integrative model. By the procedure of questionnaire survey development, sample selection, data collection, and data analysis, results show that megaproject social responsibility has a positive and significant effect on project performance, and this relationship is partially mediated by innovation. Meanwhile, the stronger the innovation ability is the stronger the relationship between political responsibility and project performance. Those findings provide contributions to the existing studies that have found inconsistent results on the direct and indirect effect of social responsibility and organization/project performance. In practice, megaproject managers can improve megaproject sustainability and project performance by paying more attention to social responsibility and innovation.
