Louisiana's commercial sugar industry has a long history, rich in tradition. the industry has experienced periods of growth, decline, and rebuilding. today, Louisiana supplies about 10 percent of domestic sugar. the outlook is for a stable industry continuing its efforts toward more efficient energy use, maintenance of air quality, and costs of producing sugar cane and cane sugar.
