Electron Paramagnetic Resonance of Manganese (II) in Newly Humified Clover Leaves
1985
Sonbol, H. A. | Baverez, M.
Clover leaves (Trifolium alexandrium L.) were humified by incubation at 30°C for 60 d. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and infrared (IR) spectra were recorded during that time. The EPR spectra of the leaves exhibited a hyperfine structure characteristic of Mn(II). The theory of the EPR experiment was discussed and the parameters of the spin Hamiltonian were determined. The A and D values of −265 and 150 Mc s⁻¹ respectively, indicated that Mn(II) was coordinated by six oxygen-containing functional group ligands in an appreciably distorted octahedron environment.
