Molybdenum in the diet: An estimate of average daily intake in the United States

Molybdenum, a component of several mammalian metalloenzymes including xanthine oxidase, aldehyde oxidase, and sulfite oxidase, is an essential nutrient and trace element for plants and animals. Food analysis and USDA estimates of food consumption revealed that the average daily dietary intake of molybdenum has been overestimated. Based on surveys of foods collected in grocery basket sampling analyzed for molybdenum content, the average daily intake varies between 120 and 240 mg per day. Consumption varies depending on age, sex, and income.
