Tratamento de água residuária de tanque de resfriamento de leite utilizando sistema alagado construído com diferentes meios suporte e disposição das espécies vegetais cultivadas | Treatment of milk cooling tank wastewater using a constructed wetland with different substrates and arrangements of the cultivated plant species

No presente trabalho, procurou-se avaliar a eficiência de sistemas alagados construídos de escoamento horizontal subsuperficial (SACs-EHSS), cultivados com capim-elefante cv. Napier (Pennisetumpurpureum Schum.) e capim-tifton 85 (Cynodon spp.), de forma consorciada, utilizando garrafas PET amassadas ou brita # 0 como meio suporte, no tratamento de água residuária de tanque comunitário de resfriamento de leite (ARTL). A infraestrutura experimental foi constituída por seis SACs-EHSS, nas dimensões de 0,6 m de altura x 1,0 m de largura x 2,5 m de comprimento, posicionados sobre o solo, tendo o fundo (em nível) e as laterais impermeabilizadas com lona de PVC de 0,5 mm de espessura, montados paralelamente e delimitados por muretas de alvenaria. Os SACs-EHSS 1, 2 e 3 (SAC-BSV, SAC-BET e SAC-BTE) foram preenchidos com brita # 0 (D 60 = 9,1 mm, coeficiente de uniformidade – CU D 60 /D 10 = 3,1 e volume de vazios inicial, n = 0,398 m 3 m -3 ), enquanto os SACs-EHSS 4, 5 e 6 (SAC-PET, SAC-PTE e SAC-PSV) foram preenchidos com garrafas PET (250 e 500 mL) amassadas (n = 0,642 m 3 m -3 ). Nos SAC-BET (2) e SAC-PET (4), cultivou-se o capim-elefante na primeira metade e capim-tifton 85 na segunda metade. Os SAC-BTE (3) e SAC-PTE (5), por sua vez, foram plantados com disposição inversa das espécies vegetais, tendo o capim-tifton 85 na primeira metade e o capim-elefante na segunda metade. Nessas unidades, realizou-se o plantio de cada espécie vegetal com densidade de 19 propágulos por metro quadrado. Já os SAC-BSV (1) e SAC-PSV (6) foram mantidos não cultivados. Cada leito foi alimentado com vazão média de 0,18 m 3 d -1 e taxa de carga orgânica (TCO) média de 318 kg ha -1 d -1 de DBO 5 . Essas condições de operação proporcionaram tempo de detenção hidráulica de 1,84 dias nos SACs-EHSS preenchidos com a brita (SACs-B) e 2,97 dias nos preenchidos com as garrafas PET amassadas (SACs-P). Para avaliar o desempenho dos sistemas, foram efetuadas 12 amostragens da água residuária afluente e efluente de cada SAC-EHSS, no decorrer do período de monitoramento experimental, de 01/04/2015 a 15/12/2015, medindo-se a condutividade elétrica, turbidez e o pH e quantificando-se as concentrações de DBO 5 , DQO, SST, N-total, P-total, K e Na. Para a quantificação da produtividade de matéria verde, matéria seca e dos teores de N, P, K e Na no tecido vegetal, foram efetuados quatro cortes da biomassa aérea das espécies vegetais cultivadas nos SACs-EHSS. Durante a avaliação, observou-se que de uma maneira geral, as espécies avaliadas se adaptaram bem ao cultivo em SACs-EHSS utilizados no tratamento ARTL, considerando-se a TCOs aplicada. O capim-tifton 85 foi a espécie vegetal que apresentou maior teor e capacidade extratora de Na, enquanto no capim- elefante, observou-se os maiores teores de N, PB e capacidade extratora de N, K e P, quando observados os valores médios das espécies em todos os tratamentos. O capim-tifton 85 apresentou maior média do teor de Na e da capacidade extratora em sua parte aérea, quando cultivado nos SACs-P. O capim-elefante, quando cultivado na primeira metade dos SACs-EHSS, apresentou maiores médias de produtividades de matéria seca da parte aérea e de capacidades de extração de N. O capim-elefante apresentou produtividade média de matéria seca superior à do capim-tifton 85, quando cultivado na primeira metade dos SACs-EHSS. O cultivo, de ambos os capins, na segunda metade dos SACs-B, proporcionou maiores extrações médias de N em comparação a quando cultivados nos SACs-P, na mesma posição de cultivo. O material suporte constituído por garrafas PET amassadas foi tão eficiente quanto a brita na remoção de algumas variáveis (DBO 5 , DQO, P-Total e K-Total) sendo, em algumas situações, até mais efetivo (turbidez, ST, SST e Na). A brita, por outro lado, proporcionou maiores remoções de N-Total da ARTL. Diante dos resultados obtidos, verificou-se que garrafas PET amassadas podem constituir alternativa viável de meio suporte em SACs-EHSS, tendo em vista que propiciam eficiente remoção de poluentes da ARTL e que a técnica de monocultivo ou policultivo dependerá do objetivo do tratamento.

In the present work, the efficiency of horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetlands (HSSF-CWs) for treating wastewater from a bulk milk cooling tank (MTWW) was evaluated when grasslands were cultivated with elephant grass cv. Napier (Pennisetum purpureum Schum.) and Tifton 85 bermudagrass (Cynodon spp.) in intercropping, using crushed PET bottles or gneiss gravel # zero as substrate. The experimental setting consisted of six HSSF-CWs with dimensions 0.6 m height x 1.0 m width x 2.5 m length placed aboveground, having their leveled bottoms and theirs sides all waterproofed with a 0.5-mm thick PVC canvas, mounted in parallel and delimited by brick walls. HSSF-CWs 1, 2, and 3 (CW-BSV, CW-BET, and CW- BTE) were filled with gravel 0 (D 60 = 9.1 mm; uniformity coefficient – UCD 60 /D 10 = 3.1; initial void volume, n = 0.398 m 3 m -3 ), while HSSF-CWs 4, 5, and 6 (CW-PET, CW-PTE, and CW-PSV) were filled with crushed (n = 0.642 m 3 m -3 ) PET bottles (250 and 500 mL). In CW-BET (2) and CW-PET (4), elephant grass was cultivated in the first half while Tifton 85 bermudagrass was cultivated in the second half. In SAC-BTE (3) and SAC-PTE (5), on the other hand, grasses were planted in the inverse arrangement: Tifton 85 bermudagrass in the first half and elephant grass in the second half. I all those four units, each plant species was cultivated at a density of 19 propagules per square meter. CW-BSV (1) and CW-PSV (6) were kept non- cultivated. Each bed was fed at a mean flow rate of 0.18 m 3 d -1 and mean organic loading rate (OLR) of 318 kg ha -1 d -1 BOD 5 . These operating conditions provided a hydraulic retention time of 1.84 day in the gravel-filled HSSF-CWs (CWs-B) and 2.97 days in the crushed-PET-filled HSSF-CWs (CWs-P). In order to evaluate wetland performance, 12 samplings of inflow and outflow wastewater were performed at each HSSF-CW along the experimental period, from 04/01/2015 through 12/15/2015, by measuring electrical conductivity, turbidity, and pH, and by quantifying BOD 5 , COD, TSS, N total , P total , K, and Na. For quantification of shoot fresh and dry weight, and of N, P, K, and Na contents in plant tissues, shoots were cut four times. During the evaluation period, both studied species overall adapted well to cultivation in HSSF-CWs used for treating MTWW, considering the OLR xiused. Tifton 85 bermudagrass showed the highest Na amounts as well as Na removal capacity, while the elephant grass showed the highest amounts of N and CP as well as removal capacity of N, K, and P, regarding the mean values observed for the species at all treatments. Tifton 85 bermudagrass showed the highest mean Na amount and removal capacity when cultivated in the CW-P’s. When cultivated in the first half of the HSSF-CWs, elephant grass showed the highest means for shoot dry matter productivity and N removal capacity, as well as a higher mean shoot dry matter productivity than Tifton 85 bermudagrass. Cultivation of both grasses in the second half of the CW-B’s showed higher means for N removal capacity than cultivation in the same half of CW-P’s. Crushed-PET substrate was as efficient as the gravel one in the removal of some variables (BOD 5 , COD, P total , and K total ). For some other variables, crushed-PET substrate was even more efficient than the gravel one (turbidity, TS, TSS, and Na). Gravel, on the other hand, showed higher N total removal from the MTWW. The results showed that crushed PET bottles might constitute a viable alternative as substrate in HSSF-CWs, as they provide an efficient pollutant removal from MTWW and in view of the fact that the adoption of either monoculture or polyculture will depend on the aim of the treatment.
